The Light of Yesterday

By: Deanna Marie Battista

Welcome blue ribbons! You've got mail. With this letter from heaven the angels sent us, I want to offer up a very special gift. A notion. This notion will set the tone for the way of what time can always convince us is bad or almost never any good. The long walk towards faith before you actually find it. It's not something that should be distorted away, rewritten within the history of saving your soul or ever be used to hinder the person you are today. Lost and found beware, because no matter what category you fall under, we all intertwine within both paths and roads that lead near and afar towards the one who put them there, trying our hardest to escape the one that also placed the boulders in those same places we are meant to walk through. There is only one way truly to make it back to yourself. Healing isn't something to ever shy away from, even when you have less and less scars apparent for you to keep counting. It's become something to always be thankful and pray for. But more than anything, to keep mindful of the bubble of healing that God's light and grace will so grant; hold onto it and don't let it cause you to enter into a new found way of peace without strength. Take it from me. Don't be weary, even those like myself that are and will always be tenderhearted. It's okay to heal and feel pain again. Don't be afraid it will distort the mirror's reflection to who you once were before you knew God, or knew him well enough to know and love yourself. Don't let the allure and echoes of shadows even when they appear in the light of day distract you from the path that God wants you to take. I don't remember a time when I didn't fear something, until the several year reprieve of bliss came around the bend to shelter me from even a flower's gaze. It's alright to be delicate. It's beautiful to carry sweetness. It's even more than okay to be nurturing to those that "don't" deserve it. It's about becoming more and more like the way God is, and the most important part of this notion, more and more like who God has set you new within. From a heart of stone no longer and eyes that wouldn't dare again to ever have to wander; never again looking for her creator at anything and anyone that wasn't him. It's okay the long walk and mistakes that were taken to get you to the altar. It's a gift: the scars you kept and the ways of tribulation you had to survive in order to find your way to...her. The girl you are today. If not for the longest dark days plagued in black and waves of chocolate red toned curls or silver glitter nails, then the light blue escape wouldn't have come to catch me off guard and whole. It's one thing to stifle your foot continuously when you are lost and wounded. But once you have been found, don't hide within your healing like you once hid within your pain. Don't use silence to build bricks around the new heart our Father in heaven gave you, just like the new one he gave to me. Run to the Father, and don't leave your mind, heart or any other part of you that he stitched back together lonely. Hold onto the peace through strength only he can grant. Don't be afraid of the femininity you behold that is as light as a feather; just the same don't cower away from the roar of the tiger that's as sharp as a sword. Use both equally and above all, don't ever let this world or the people in it make you doubt your trust for God. Until the next letter from heaven falls down, let us light the candle of what tomorrow will beckon through the cleared haze of what yesterday created. Don't regret but rejoice, because if not for the broken pieces; how would God have been able to recreate and build back the better you to the puzzle that was always meant to be mended and forged by heaven's love and Jesus's direct command?

Yours Truly,
